How To Prevent Fatty Liver Part 2
There are many lifestyle practices that can cause fatty liver. Last week we looked at alcohol consumption. This week we focus on why we eat food.
Ask yourself the question, ‘Why do I eat food?’
You may have more than one reason why you eat food. Prioritize your responses starting with the most important reason. Do this activity before you continue reading this newsletter.
Your primary reasons for eating food are as follows:
· To obtain energy to perform your daily activities
· To gain nutrients so you can grow and,
· To boost your immune system so your body can repair itself and prevent and fight infection to stay healthy.
You should not eat food solely as a pleasurable activity. While you may enjoy eating certain foods because they look, taste, smell, or feel good in your mouth, every food you eat MUST satisfy the primary reasons for eating. The person who eats with the primary reason for eating food in mind is a diet conscious individual. You can save yourself from many illnesses when you are diet conscious.
Optimum liver care is dependent on you becoming diet conscious. You must pay attention to why you eat, what you eat, when you eat and how what you eat will affect you physically and mentally.
Did you know that what you eat can limit your mental ability? What you eat can affect how you think, reason, learn and adapt. Your food influences memory, focus and attention, problem solving and creativity. Very often, when your food creates a mental challenge, the liver is affected as well.
Before reaching for something to eat, take a moment to attend to what you are feeling and what it is that needs to be filled. Ask yourself, ‘Why am I about to eat?’ Am I hungry for food? Am I thirsty? Am I about to eat because I feel stressed, bored, angry, sad or lonely?
Am I eating to fill a mental void?
There is a mental void or emptiness that can manifest itself as hunger. Such mental void is cause for many persons overindulgence in food. You know you are experiencing a mental void if you are going through life mechanically, purposelessly and numbly. Often, the feeling is accompanied by a sense of disconnectedness from others or the world.
While weight management is included in being diet conscious, being diet conscious is more than just dieting; it’s about fulfilling all the reasons why we eat food. Any food that does not meet the criteria for ‘why we eat food’ should not be eaten.

SelfCare Weekly Recipe
The utilization of medicinal plants has a long history. It dates to ancient times. Presently, medicinal plants are still used to address a wide array of illnesses, including cancer, skin diseases, cardiovascular disorders, endocrinal imbalances, gastrointestinal ailments, genitourinary conditions, respiratory system disorders, musculoskeletal disorders, liver diseases, and even treatment for poisonous bites. Originally, it was thought that the therapeutic effects of medicinal plants were due to their secondary metabolites (substances they produce that do not contribute to their basic growth, development, or reproduction; instead, they play a role in defense, survival, and other functions). It is now believed that chlorophyll may play a significant role in the therapeutic effect of medicinal plants.
