Hormonal Imbalance in Men

Hormonal imbalance is the presence of too much or too little of a hormone in the blood. In last week’s edition of SelfCare, hormonal imbalance in women was addressed. This week, hormonal imbalance in men is the focus.

Adequate level of testosterone is vital for the quality of life, longevity, and positive health outcomes of men. The aging process of a man results in decreasing testosterone levels (Androgen Deficiency AD), over time. While further research is needed to determine the optimal testosterone and androgen levels to protect from chronic age-related conditions such as frailty and osteoporosis, it cannot be denied that decreasing levels does impact health.

The male sex hormones, testosterone and its derivatives, regulate and modulate almost all bodily functions directly or indirectly. For example, biological aging has been consistently shown to correlate with marked declines in androgen levels. Biological aging is also associated with the development of many chronic and wasting diseases. It is also associated with inflammation and oxidative stress.

Currently, the primary treatment for AD is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). But this may exacerbate pre-existing medical conditions. Therefore, the use of alternative options, such as herbs, spices, plants, or their extracts, have been explored as a potential treatment option for AD. Several herbs may help support hormonal balance in men, with some showing potential to increase testosterone levels. Saffron has demonstrated antidepressant and anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects. Curcumin (from Turmeric) appears to offer pain relief for sufferers of arthritis. Cinnamon may support blood-sugar regulation in type 2 diabetics. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) water-based or ethanol-water-based, 7:30 extract and Fenugreek seed extract increase testosterone concentration as well as reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.

Hormonal Imbalance in MenAsian ginseng has antioxidant properties. It is worth noting however, that the only study demonstrating benefits of Asian ginseng recruited individuals with metabolic syndrome.

One study done on Forskohlii (Coleus barbatus) demonstrates a testosterone-enhancing effect.

Herbs may also increase testosterone concentrations by modulating cortisol production. Cortisol is the body’s major stress hormone. When cortisol level goes up, testosterone concentration goes down. Ashwagandha is associated with reducing cortisol concentrations. Hence, it potentially contributes to the testosterone-enhancing effect. Fenugreek seeds extract and Asian ginseng can reduce cortisol level as well.

Herbs may also influence the activity of enzymes associated with testosterone production.

Balancing hormones naturally isn’t just about addressing symptoms—it’s about building a foundation for lifelong health. Start today with small, consistent changes that nurture your body and mind.

Hormonal Imbalance in MenSelfCare Personal Development Sayings

If someone asks for help and you can help, do so.

Say what you have to say and do what you must do without fear. The person who is overcome by fear has no faith in themselves and does not value what they are about to say or do enough to act.

Do not help others into a state of weakness. Teach others to help themselves.

Hard and complex challenges advance your consciousness and awareness.

If the matter does not concern you, limit the time you spend arguing about it.

Exercise caution when speaking to someone who believes that core principles are outdated. They contribute to the regression of human consciousness and awareness.

Hormonal Imbalance in MenIs Beer Drinking The Least Manly Thing To Do?

Excessive beer consumption can negatively impact the health of men. Beer can reduce testosterone levels, affect reproductive function (impair sperm production), negatively influence heart health, and increase the risk of certain cancers. While moderate consumption may offer some cardiovascular benefits, these benefits should be weighed against developing the habit of heavy drinking.
