Self Care

Life is no longer what it used to be. With technology controlling so much of what we do, we have become more sedentary. As we move away from whole foods, and embrace more highly processed ones, our diets have become unhealthier. The fast pace of an ever-changing world and the many economic challenges influence an increase in our stress levels. And our constant focus on situations that are outside the self, have left us with poor mental health and emotional imbalance. The result is that we have become a people exhibiting many chronic illnesses.

Chronic illnesses are not only prevalent among the aging population. There is a marked increase among adolescents and young adults too. This is very concerning since chronic illnesses can reduce life expectancy.

In Canada, approximately 45.1% of the population are experiencing at least one major chronic disease. This includes conditions like hypertension, osteoarthritis, mood and/or anxiety disorders, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, chronic stress due to lengthy screen time and asthma. In short, we are facing a health crisis in Canada.

The SelfCare Newsletter was born out of a need to address this crisis. The objective of the SelfCare Newsletter is to provide subscribers with information that can assist them in taking a preventative approach towards their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs.

The SelfCare Newsletter has its roots in the ‘Terrain Theory” approach to health and wellbeing. This theory suggests that if the body is well and balanced, germs that are a natural part of life and the environment will be dealt with by the body without causing sickness. The terrain theory de-emphasizes microbes and places emphasis on the health of the body. It believes that there are many factors linked together that can cause illnesses. These factors include environmental toxins (e.g. pesticides, some heavy metals, pollution in the air, and electromagnetic radiation), the side effects of medications, negative or dysfunctional thoughts that may lead to depression and anxiety, and poor nutrition.

The SelfCare Newsletter provides information to assist subscribers in strengthening their terrain (i.e., the body). A strong body, mind and spirit makes it more challenging for the individual to slip into a disease state. This means, our SelfCare contributes to sustainable health and wellness.

Lastly, our SelfCare Newsletter gives you access to a holistic practitioner who is readily available to answer your questions and address your concerns.
