What Causes a Spiritual Crisis
WEEKLY QUOTE: ‘When I was baby, I did the things babies are known to do. As a child, I acted in accordance with the laws governing the behaviour of a child. But now that I am grown, I put all this behind me. I seek to align myself with the laws that govern a mature being.’
(Paraphrased from St Paul)
1.Spiritual crisis results when humanity seeks to satisfy itself with the use of activities that are not compatible with its present state of the consciousness.
Let us revisit who we really are. In our free course we pointed out that the true self is a unit of conscious energy. Within this unit of conscious energy is a higher mind and a lower mind. The lower mind is the emotional aspect of us, and it grows innately. It needs no experience to expand. The lower mind is rather sensual in that its gratification comes about by what feels good, looks good, smells good, tastes good and tickles the ear. The language of the lower mind is feelings. In the absence of the lower mind there can be no expansion of the higher self; because we only attend to stimuli that creates a feeling within us. But as the higher mind which bears the energy frequency of thought, reflection, consideration and reason expands, the emotional mind gradually becomes subdued. The fact that the emotional mind has been subdued means that the appetite for sensual gratification is subdued as well. The spirit calls out for a more mature way of life. No longer is it fully satisfied with material goals and desires. There is a hunger for more freedom and personal choices. There is that inner need for oneness – a deeper connection with others, nature and the cosmos as a whole.
2.However, in the absence of self knowledge – that knowledge of one’s present state – the spirit being seek to fill the feeling of a void by finding new and more sensual activities. When the emotional high brought on by the experience is not gratifying enough, a higher emotional high is sought after. The behaviour become riskier and riskier and some behaviour may lead to physical death.
3.Think Big Spiritual Awakening seeks to increase the awareness of humanity to that ever expanding dimension called the higher mind; and which we all possess . We seek to inform our students of its needs and how these needs may be met.
